On the Go Green Smoothie

smoothie_cupsYou have a busy life…. either working INSIDE or OUTSIDE the home, right? Sometimes it’s hard to get motivated OR you don’t have the time to eat healthy… Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so here is a tip to help you make sure you have time to fit it all in!

My best girlfriend works full time and she always tries to make the most of her limited free time.  I convinced her to trade in her high-calorie and full-of-additives-protein bar for another form of protein that is packed full of vitamins!  To help her save time in the mornings, she does most of the prep work for her morning smoothies in advance, the night before.

Like anything, making food taste good sometimes takes a little time and effort.  So to combat not having enough time in that early morning space after hitting the gym and before rushing out the door for the office, you can do all of the prep work for your smoothies the night before and simply blend it together in the morning so it’s fresh and frozen!

The night before, grab your blender pitcher and load up the following, then add the lid to the pitcher and set aside in the fridge over night:

1. Start with a big handful of baby spinach leaves – about a cup.
2.  One scoop each of protein powder, Super Greens power and Super Seed (I        like the Garden of Life brand)
3.  1 teaspoon of omega-3 fish oil
4.  1.5 Cups frozen fruit** (1/2 banana, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, Mango)
5.  Add unsweetened Almond Milk to the pitcher – about 1 cup, then fill the remainder of the picture with water.

**NOTE: I prepare individual serving bags of frozen fruit that can be added in the      morning in lieu of ice.  Try some organic berries, 1/2 of frozen banana, and          then some organic frozen mangos to help sweeten the smoothie in each bag      (about 1.5 cups for a large pitcher). Bananas will help make the smoothie            creamy. Load up several bags for the week so that you can simply add the          frozen fruit in the mornings!  If you don’t have any frozen bananas, a half of a      fresh avocado will also do the trick of making your smoothie creamy…
